Cycles and Work Items

Run delivery with planned cycles or active work, manage backlog items, and track execution status.

Delivery Models

Each project uses one of two delivery modes:

ModeWhen to use it
Cycles enabledUse time-boxed planning with explicit cycle start dates and durations
Cycles disabledUse continuous Active Work without a cycle board

You choose the model in Project Settings.

Cycles

When cycles are enabled, the project gets a Cycles page and an Active Cycle page.

Cycle fields

Each cycle includes:

  • Goal
  • Start date
  • Duration of 1, 2, 3, or 4 weeks

Planned cycles can be started from the cycle detail screen.

Cycles page

The Cycles page shows:

  • Cycles filtered by timeline
  • Work items inside each cycle
  • An execution backlog of open work items that are not yet in a cycle

The page is designed for moving work items between backlog and cycles while keeping priority order visible.

Active Cycle or Active Work

Active Cycle

If cycles are enabled, the active execution view shows:

  • The currently active cycle
  • Development statistics for that cycle
  • Work items grouped by status

If there is no active cycle yet, Floumy prompts you to plan one first.

Active Work

If cycles are disabled, the same screen becomes Active Work and shows:

  • All open work items
  • Recent completed items
  • Work items grouped by status

This mode is useful for teams that do not want sprint-style planning.

Work Items

Work items are the units of execution in Floumy.

Work items can include:

  • Title
  • Rich-text description
  • Priority
  • Type
  • Linked initiative

Work item list

The All Work Items page supports search and infinite scrolling. Search works against:

  • Title
  • Description
  • Reference
  1. Create an initiative on the roadmap.
  2. Break that initiative into work items.
  3. Link work items to issues when they exist to fix a reported bug.
  4. Move work items into a cycle or leave them in active work.
  5. Advance statuses as work moves through delivery.

AI support

When creating or editing a work item, Floumy can generate a draft description from the project context and title.
